Equal parts preppy and effortless, J.Crew’s signature Rollneck design stands the test of time. First debuted in the heritage brand’s 1988 catalog, the classic style returns with a star-studded campaign titled the Next Rollneck Generation.
With help from next-generation talent across film, TV and music — Benito Skinner, Dominic Sessa, Lukita Maxwell, Maggie Rogers, Molly Gordon, Rome Flynn and Taylour Paige-Angulo — the September drop both reissues the original ’80s design and reinterprets the staple for 2025, the former fittingly titled the 1988 Rollneck and the latter named the 2025 Rollneck.

Starting with the OG, the 1988 Rollneck reintroduces the exact same silhouette seen in J.Crew’s ’80s catalogs, and is available in unisex sizing (xx-small to xx-large).
Alternatively, the 2025 Rollneck is a modern take on the original design, featuring a more relaxed fit (described as “slouchy, not boxy”) that hits just below the hip, plus ribbed details at the neck and cuffs. It’s available in women’s sizes (x-small to 3x).
Both the 1988 and 2025 versions feature the casually curled neckline that makes the Rollneck the Rollneck. They’re also crafted from 100-percent cotton yarn and are machine washable.
The return of the Rollneck brings along 27 colors and patterns, available in unisex, women’s and Crewcuts fits (plus a limited-edition dog sweater and bag charm). Customers were instantly taken by the Fall 2025 drop, with the internet abuzz and select colorways selling out within days of launch.
Solid colors retail for $98 and striped designs for $118 (for both the 1988 Rollneck and the 2025). The Crewcuts Rollneck is priced between $69.50 and $75. It’s available in xx-small (age 2-3) through xx-large (age 14). Check out the Next Rollneck Generation’s campaign video and imagery here, and shop the full Rollneck collection now at jcrew.com.
